In the race to space between the United States
and the Soviet Union during the Cold War,
three black female mathematicians played a
key role in launching astronaut John Glenn
into outer space, making him the first
American to orbit Earth. The biographical
drama Hidden Figures tells the true story of
Katherine Johnson, who in 1961 became the
first black woman to work in a top role at
NASA Langley Research Center on the
mathematical chalenges of the US space
program.
The film was nominated for Best Picture, Best
Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting
Actress. It won the Screen Actors Guild Award
for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a
Motion Picture. Tomatoes gives it a critic's
score of 93, and an audience approval score of
93. It was released in theatres last February,
and released on DVD a couple of months ago,

Movie Night is also a potluck. Bring a side dish,
salad, drink, or movie snack to share. Carol is
fixing fried chicken for the main dish.
Arrive any time after 6 pm. Food is served at
6:20. Movie starts at around 6:45. Those who
