The Deepwater Horizon was a floating oil platform leased to BP, attempting the deepest oil well in history at a vertical depth of over 6 miles. It experienced a blowout on April 20, 2010. The resulting fire and explosion caused the platform to sink, at a loss of 11 lives, and resulted in the largest oil spill ever in U.S. waters. The film by the same name tells a human story inspired by real events.

The film was released in theaters last September. It is just out on DVD as of Tuesday Jan 10, 2017. Tomatoes gives it a critics' score of 83, and a popular score of 85. A trailer is here.
